Correctional Officer Aggravates Pre-Existing Knee Problems

Ridge & Downes

A 36-year-old female correctional officer came to our office when she was off work and not receiving any benefits. She suffered from a knee injury but had pre-existing knee problems from her time as a competitive athlete. We had an emergency hearing and the Arbitrator found her claim to be compensable and ordered her employer to pay her off work benefits and pay for her medical treatment. Her physician diagnosed her with internal derangement and her employer paid for her knee surgery. Upon being released from her physician’s care, her case settled for 20% loss of use of her leg and payment of all TTD and medical expenses.
